Moving Update

Kitchen is done, except for junk drawer and a few decorator items which seem to defy packing (I think they hide when the boxes/tape come out, and return when I say "eff-this, I'm done for today").

Good news from yesterday, yours truly has a graduate assistantship at my new university!  Bonus +2 is I will a) get paid and b) get some tuition and fees paid.  Woo to the Hoo!  The best news about this is that it is minimal (10 hours per week) and I will be scheduled around my class time (very good news).

I have been writing thank you notes to coworkers here at the current job.  My last day here is July 29.

I had a raging bout of insomnia last night - dreamt of a huge-ass spider crawling on me (in the dream, it was the size of my hand and HAIRY), so I was in no great hurry to shut my eyes again.  I think I passed back out an hour later or so.

Hoosier Guy has sanded, stained and poly'd the wood floor in our living room/office area.  I am dying to see it, but will see it August 2, so trying to contain my need to know, albeit unsuccessfully.

Am giving a few furniture items to a coworker - she is a single mom, living on her own for the first time since her daughter was born a couple years ago.  I know what it is like to move into a place with jack-shit-nothing, so giving stuff to her seems like good karma for the future, no?

It is hot here.  It is always hot here.  Repeat these statements daily from April to October.

Back Home Again .... In Indiana ...

I returned back to the home state on Saturday.  I've missed it here.

I missed most of the fall leaves, although there are still a few stubborn trees that won't give up.
I've missed my family -- haven't seen Sister and Boy Wonder since July.
I've missed my friends -- haven't seen most of them since July.

The next few days will be a flurry of activity.  This weekend was pleasant, as it was a whole lotta time with Hoosier Guy, showing him "my" town, and then a lovely afternoon/evening at Sister and Boy Wonder's home, complete with a yummy dinner.

Today is a trip to my former workplace (Ivy) to visit with friends, then to lunch with some *other* former coworkers from my time at the State, then to Indiana U to visit with the head of the Ph.D. program for my degree field.  The first two options for today -- so excited I could burst.  The third option?  Bursting, not sure if it is excitement or nerves.  :)

Indiana U is tied at #2 in the nation with Harvard for my degree field.  I would love to go there but almost feel it is a long shot.  This will not preclude me from doing the royal suck-up while I am there though ;)

Wish me luck.

Puttin' on my crankypants.

So Evan Bayh is not running again.  Let's be honest, Evan Bayh was no more a Democrat than I am Republican.  What plays well in Indiana is a R in D clothing.

The best thing I can say about Evan is that his wife was a good advisor to the Butler Democrats while I was there and I finagled a nice summer internship (which later turned into a career-change) while he was Gov.

The worst thing I can say about him (before two days ago) was that he had the SOFTEST hands of any man, woman or child I have ever met.  EVER.   I don't know what lotion he used, how many manicures he had or even if he had ever picked up anything heavier than a prop shovel at a groundbreaking but I can say this -- his hands were the stuff silk would be jealous of.

Now.

Let's talk about the general commenters on the various websites talking down my home state.  Fuck Off.

For those that want a fast pace, big cities and endless parades of insanity, Indiana isn't your place.  Go ahead, go back from whence you came.  If you can never just appreciate the whispering sounds that a breeze blowing through the corn fields  makes -- Indiana isn't your place.  If you don't understand the fascination with basketball (or Class Basketball, if you really want to start a fight), then Indiana isn't your place.

Indiana isn't California, Colorado, Massachusetts or even Florida.  It is Indiana.  It has its own charms, apparently lost on many out there in other states.  From the Lake Michigan sand dunes to rolling fields of corn to the hills and valleys -- Indiana has a beauty all its own.  From agriculture to race cars to basketball, Indiana holds a special place in my heart. I love my home state.
