This week’s Six Word Fridays topic? LINE. Line ‘em up, toe the line, walk the line. Draw a line in the sand. What’s my line? Tell me Friday, won’t you?
Double stacked, in a long line
the moving boxes stare at me
now packed tight, with precious belongings
they await their turn in line
to be loaded onto the truck.
These are the days I think
longingly, lovingly of a backpack lifestyle
two pairs of panties, two bras
some socks, two tshirts, jeans, shorts
in a backpack on my back.
instead I look at the boxes
lined up, ready, waiting, nearly there
and wonder how - how - even with
Goodwill, resale shops and giveaways, that
I have this much stuff boxed.
line it up boys -- headed north!

I have no idea how I could possibly need as much stuff as I own. And yet. Rooms, closets, garage: all full. I cannot explain.
When I moved back to the states from Europe, we did it mostly in suitcases. And bought a house that to me seemed cavernous. When I was walking through it with my dad for the first time, I was wondering out loud what in the world I would ever do with all that space...and he said, oh, if you have it, you will fill it. Sad to say, he was right! And there were many trucks and boxes involved in our next move. Good Luck with your move!
I'll be doing this myself soon. Good luck! It's a lot of work, isn't it?
Melissa: Agreed. Unbelievable. Simply Outrageous -- the amount of STUFF I have.
Adrienne: Yes, I've heard that power abhors a vaccuum and I believe "space" feels the same way -- it must be filled.
Molly: It is a blinding amount of work -- seems like every free hour I have is spent tagging, toting, boxing, wrapping, packing and hauling. There are moments (I had one this weekend) where I could post "come and get it" on Craigslist and not feel guilty about missing ONE SINGLE THING.
Be safe on your journey, wherever it takes you. I love the visual images in this poem.
Oh, and thanks for your sweet comment on Michael and Me!
