I found out, via an email reply to the email I'd sent him, that I am defriended because he is now engaged to said woman he's been living with and she wasn't happy about me being on his friend list. Thus, the defriending.
Oooooh, the power I have!
Now if only this power could be transformed into a big bottle of wine, a roaring fire, the Hoosier Guy and me, that would be worth something.
That kind of power? I don't need it, I don't want it, I wish it gone. I'm just someone he used to date for about ten minutes, nothing more, nothing less.
Like I said, I wish him well and much happiness.
The evil side of me wonders what other things he'll have to give up in the name of love...
No Thank You, I'm good. Don't want that kind of love. Had that before and I'll never make the mistake of calling it love again.
1 Corinthians 13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
... And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

It's a funny thing, being 'defriended' on Facebook
Earlier this week, I'd noted my "friend count" had gone down on FB, but with folks coming and going, and life constantly changing, I figured it was probably someone I 'gamed' with, not someone I knew.
Whether or not it was this week (or in weeks past), I now know who it was. It's a funny thing ... this timing. Last year at about this very time, he and I ceased dating because he was confused about his life and a past love. At the time, I was stone cold pissed -- upset beyond words -- crying -- the nasty 'boo hooing' one only does when one is truly ALONE because of how awful you sound and look. Looking back, I'm not quite sure why it hit me so hard -- maybe it was the 'promise' of something good dating-wise, maybe it was because he was (and likely remains) a gentleman (opening car doors and the like), or maybe it was because 'our' dairy queen lady loved to tell me about 'my husband' -- when in reality we'd only gone out a few times at that point, invariably stopping at DQ for a sweet after. Like I said, looking back, I'm not quite sure what I was all fired up about but I was, at one point, anyway, really hurt that he and I had stopped dating.
Since that time (and shortly after we stopped dating), he moved in with yet another female and has since made a life with her and their collective children. At last check, he seemed happy. I think that's all you can hope for someone is that they are happy (and I do wish that for him).
I looked him up today because I was curious how his classes turned out this semester. Yes, he is a student at my college, albeit at the campus north of here, but he's mentioned me a few times in his postings and my colleagues -- often giving them a shout-out when they've been good to him.
And now we're defriended.
And since that time of our dating, I didn't date anyone until Hoosier Guy.
And now I am thankful EVERY DAY things didn't work out with that other guy. I would've hated to miss out on someone as lovely as Hoosier Guy. Funny how life works out sometimes, isn't it?

Facebook.
I joined Facebook probably two years ago. Facebook is an odd sort of community, one that brings you back in touch with people you knew "back when," people you know presently and people that you've never known, but whom share a mutual interest.
My interest, lately, has been online games.
I know, it's silly. I wasn't one that grew up with video games of any sort. I mean, I had a cousin that had an Atari and I remember loving to play Frogger. Frogger, back then, was a green blip that was "supposed" to look like a frog crossing traffic. Never mind that the "traffic" wasn't anything more than dashed-lines that were supposedly cars and trucks. Needless to say, this wasn't the golden age of gaming, it was simply what it was.
My sister, however, is just a few years younger than me. She had a Nintendo. Yes, the original, no numbers after it, no labels, no nothing. Standard Nintendo. This was a huge step up from Atari as you could actually see what things were supposed to be rather than just a blip that may or may not look like what it is supposed to be.
Back to Facebook.
I'm hooked on a couple of things. Mafia Wars. Farmville. Pirates. Sorority Life. Farkle. All silly, ridiculous games that have no bearing on my existence but I love playing them.
Facebook -- who knew I'd actually enjoy using it?

Digital Bridge vs. Digital Divide
There are times I feel like I'm talking Czech to my Dad when we discuss his computer and what he wants to do. Generally there is a request/problem, such as: "It won't let me print" or "How do I ... ?"
This is when there is a real digital divide in my life. Seeing as I'm about 1300 or so miles away from Dad, I can't very well go in the next room and explain how to fix his problem. My latest, greatest hope for bridging our digital divide is my research into local (free) classes offered by his library in computer literacy.
Then there is my cousin C. C is the son of my cousin K, and is 13 years old. Tonight C and I were conversing via Facebook chat. This is way cool for a number of reasons. One is that I can catch up with him and his life, easily, via Facebook. We discussed life, work, baseball, school and family all in a few minutes. I feel like we actually connected via Facebook chat, maybe moreso than the times I try to converse with him when I drop by K's house.
A digital bridge, if you will.

OhIdon'tfuckingthinkso.
So I'm on facebook. Love facebook so much more than myspace -- have been able to reconnect with friends from forever ago and am loving the whole experience.
Then today I get a 'friend suggestion' from another friend from HS. This friend suggestion is for an ex.
OhIdon'tfuckingthinkso.
The ex and I have been around the block more than once. Needless to say, the last turn around the block was enough for me. I cut him out of my life and have no intention of letting him back in. The ship has sailed, the day has passed, the train has left the station, etc etc.
And now the friend request -- which I deleted and will continue to delete should it come up again.

Facebook and other musings.
Alright, kiddos, I have entered the 21st century. I have officially done more with my Facebook account than just open it. I've looked up friends from my past, added photos and generally enjoyed myself. I've been on myspace now for quite some time, but Facebook hasn't been on my radar until lately.
*****
I'm exhausted after another day at home. I should feel better but the truth is I've slept so much I feel a little out of sorts because of it. Big big monster-huge thank you to my Sister for bringing me lunch and meds today. She literally saved me from pain. Love you Sissy.
*****
The one thing I hate about Facebook and myspace is the 'relationship' determinator all seem to have. Does that truly matter? I suppose for people looking for hook-ups or other such entanglements, the status matters but for me, meh. I'm single, I'm dating, I'm happy. Simple as that. Too bad there isn't a relationship status button for "happy" because I'd denote that every time.
*****
A few shout-outs before I call this a day:
* Jason Moore -- glad to catch up with you on Facebook. Would love to hear more about your life.
* Sharkfamily -- looking forward to seeing you next week.
* Sister -- thanks for saving me today. Seriously, you rock.
* Scully -- next summer is looking like more and more of a go. I'm consulting with my friend in Portland to see when she'll be in town then I'll set the dates. Cannot wait!!!
* Peteski and Babs -- thanks for the birthday wishes, I appreciate them mightily!
